The reading for the 1st Sunday in Lent is always the Temptation of Jesus in the desert. The 2nd Sunday in Lent is always the Transfiguration.
Context - we have entered Jesus' final year of his ministry. In the previous chapter, Jesus has begun to share with the Apostles that he must suffer greatly at the hands of the Scribes and Pharisees, be killed, and rise on the third day. They did not understand and were greatly distressed. Jesus then takes Peter, James, and John up the mountain to see his Transfiguration. They get to witness the glory of the Lord.
Here are some questions we will answer Tuesday night:
The reading begins, “After six days…”. After 6 days of what?
Why up a mountain?
Why did Jesus just take three (Peter, Andrew, and James) with him? Why not all twelve?
What was the significance of the Jesus shining so brightly?
Why Moses and Elijah?
What is the significance of God coming in the cloud?
Why did Jesus tell them not to tell anyone?
See you Tuesday!
