RON HALLAGAN
CCL President
My name is Ron Hallagan. I was raised in the Catholic faith by wonderful, old-school, Catholic parents. They sent me to a boarding seminary to straighten me out and perhaps get a priest at the same time. Unfortunately, I was asked to leave after two years. I then became an atheist for 10 years until God got my attention one day and I slowly returned to the Catholic Church with many detours along the way (Eastern religions, Judaism, Protestantism, and finally back to Catholicism). I then taught Catechism (CCD) for 15 years, then bible study with the prisoners at Fairfax County Jail, then switched to mentoring Catholic prisoners to the present time.
During my time with my Protestant compadres (primarily Episcopal and Methodist), I got tired of hearing how Catholics don’t know the Bible, which is why I later started Northern Virginia Catholic Bible Study & Apologetics with Taylor (2019). As I have said from the beginning, you don’t need to know a thing about the Bible to jump into our group – you are among kindred spirits! Also, participation is not required so if you are shy, no worries.
I have certifications in Catholic Philosophy, Catholic Theology, and Catholic Apologetics. My degrees are in Business/Management, and I presently run a pet resort company in Northern Virginia and Maryland. I am in my 40th year of blissful marriage to a wonderful woman named Patsy, and we have 3 grown, successful, happy, and good-looking children who are much better human beings than I was at their ages. Two of them have families of their own in Asheville, NC, and one still lives in the Northern Virginia area and is our stalwart Bible Study Coordinator – Taylor!.
Our Bible Study group started out in-person with 5-10 people, and now averages 20-25 each week. As all are welcome to come and go as they please, we remain small enough that anyone can ask questions any time in the meetings.
We returned to in-person meetings at St. John Neumann Church in February 2023 and have also continued our Zoom presence since we have had members join from far away as Africa and the Philippines. If you have any questions, you can reach me via MeetUp.
Maranatha!
“The Bible is like a flashlight that shines light on certain places in our lives. Other times, it is like a mirror and reflects us back to ourselves. Still other times, it is like sandpaper that smooths some of our rough edges.” - Fr. Mike Schmitz
TAYLOR HALLAGAN
CCL Director of Communications
Taylor is the happy behind-the-scenes worker of Catholic Catacombs Light. Born and raised Catholic, Taylor assisted in teaching CCD classes for several years and remains animatedly curious about the Bible and especially passionate about Mary's Grace. She works in Human Resources for a local pet resort. A happy helper, fellow student, and organizer of this site, Taylor is always open to discussing faith and Bible questions, as well as taking on prayer requests. If you'd like to chat about the bible with a likewise learner, feel free to connect with Taylor through our Meetup group.
THE BIBLE
CCL Guide & Inspiration
The Bible is a collection of religious texts or scriptures sacred to Jews, Samaritans, Christians and others. It appears in the form of an anthology, a compilation of texts of a variety of forms that are all linked by the belief that they are collectively revelations of God.
